I was immediately drawn into this story by the characters. Larger than life and absolutely recognisable, it was impossible not to be captivated by them. Once the mystery of the Jorgensen family was unveiled, it was near impossible to put down.

Jenna, in such pain from the loss of her family that she couldn't see a way out of the darkness; Lars, nursing a broken heart in more ways than one; Owen, doing his best despite the secrets he kept; Audrey, lost inside her own mind, holding the key to a dec

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest and thoughtful review.

From the story's gripping first chapter to its full circle conclusion, I was completely transfixed by the frozen Minnesota setting and the crushing grief that bonds together two seemingly unlikely yet broken individuals. It is through this unusual friendship that Jenna and Lars begin to heal. I was so captivated by their relationship that it was hard to say goodbye by the end. Each character within this cast

Jenna stumbles upon Lars unintentionally but it seems like fate. Both have suffered unimaginable loss of family in very hard circumstances. Lars however lives in uncertainty whereas Jenna has given up all hope. Jenna is suicidal and just wants to end it all. Lars is living on borrowed time. His heart will give up any day soon.

How Lars rescues Jenna from a watery death and how Jenna repays the favor by digging into his past uncovering the sad story of his wife and two children and tries to look a

Thank you so much TLC Book Tours and Amazon Publishing for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and for having me on this book tour!  I was pleasantly surprised by this book as I wasn't too sure what to expect, but I ended up emotionally attached by the end and hoping that we see these characters again soon.  I give this book four stars!

I think my favorite part about this story was seeing two troubled souls find each other and help each other.  We have all been there

3.5 stars

I read this story in one setting and found it absorbing. I liked the characters, the plot, the writing style. I thought Jenna’s tragedy was handled more deeply and heartbreakingly in the first part of the book; although theoretically her grief felt devastating, my connection with her character was feeble (which is strange, because I wanted to know her family; the author made them all so real).

There’s no romantic relationship i

First I have to say thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishers for this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book starts out with much sadness and continues all the way. It’s a book so worth reading and shedding tears for. It had me from the start and I could not put it down. I read all day yesterday and today only stopping to cook and take a shower. Well sleep too but that is beside the point.

Two lost souls brought together due to so much loss and sadness. Two that would never hav

Jenna is really struggling. After suffering devastating and total loss, she has got to the end of her tether so to speak so makes a big decision. She drives off and randomly stops by a lake. She then walks out onto the frozen surface of the lake. Lars spots her from his house and prevents her continuing with her goal. And thus a bond is formed which, despite reluctance from both parties seems strong. Lars has his own demons to fight, the loss of his wife and two of his childre

Literati Literature Lovers

The Widow’s Watcher by Eliza Maxwell touches on many topics: suicidal ideation, surviving tragic loss, mental illness, and the importance of family and forgiveness. For those of you who are thinking right now that this book sounds like a real downer, I’m not going to lie. You will be well into the narrative before you begin to see some light. Yet, isn’t literature supposed to be real? And isn’t it supposed to reflect the human condition? Aren’t we supposed to find characters with whom we can ide ...more
